The merriment expressed the pride of the military and homefront to have been part of this great victory. Despite eleven years of unemployment and hardships of the great depression, four years of horrific war, losing loved ones, rationing of food and gasoline and the war production duties endured by the homefront. This group is called the “Greatest Generation” which is a title they deserve. The above is just a part of what is on the plaque in Sarasota Fl. This sculpture was created by J. Seward Johnson.
